Mrs Ainon moved to Kolam Ayer with both her mother and niece. Back then, there were fewer buses and only three food stalls.
During her childhood days, she learnt how to cook and sew among other skills. She also likes to take care of plants. She was very rough when she was younger. Not only that, she was also brave and naughty. She climbed trees and did all the things boys would normally do.
When she was a teenager, she would always go to the cinema to watch movies. Movie tickets then were only 50 cents or a dollar for the better seats. The cinema that she frequented then was the Roxy cinema. The other place she would frequent with her friends was the open grass area to watch movies. The screen was actually a big sheet tied onto two poles. When it rained, the movie would be postponed to the next day.
Mrs Ainon also enjoyed going to the pasar malam. She said that the pasar malams were much more fun and far better than what we have today. She would go there almost every Wednesday. In fact, it was so fun that she could hardly bear to leave the place for home.
