Arasu Duraisamy served as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) from 2018 to 2020, in the 13th Parliament of Singapore. He was nominated by the labour movement due to his extensive experience and contributions to the labour movement.
In Parliament, he spoke on issues such as raising wages, removing retirement age, retraining and reskilling workers, among other topics.
Duraisamy holds a diploma in employment relations from the Ong Teng Cheong Institute – UniSIM and was awarded the Seah Mui Kok Award for the Top Unionist in the programme.
He was the General Secretary of the Singapore Port Workers’ Union and is anelected member of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Central Committee. He also serves as the Vice Chairman of the management council of the NTUC Club.
In addition, he represents the labour movement on the Public Transport Council and is a member of the Future Economy Council's Trade and Connectivity Sub-Committee. Previously he represented workers in the National Wages Council. Duraisamy is also active in the international labour movement as a committee member of the International Transport Federation.
He works as an assistant service engineer with the PSA Corporation.
