Thamarai, a weekly publication covering political, social, literary and arts content, came into circulation since 1977. The editor of the magazine was T Selvaganapathy, and Sulochana Selvaganapathy was the publisher. The magazine had a varying number of pages from 16 to 32 pages. It featured diverse sections including editorials, updates on Tamil Nadu news, Q&A, opinion columns, women's section, poetry, short stories, serialised stories, essays, and serialised essays. The magazine underwent changes in its design over time and was printed by Ganesh Press, located at 430 Race Course Road.

The magazine featured articles such as “Present status of Tamil language,” emphasising the role of grammar in the Tamil language. It also published pieces such as “English and Mother Tongue” and “Bilingualism - Responsibility of Tamil community,” underlining the significance of bilingualism, which is deemed essential for Singapore's development. The serialised essays predominantly delved into literary appreciation and the life of early Tamils. The editorials consistently emphasised solidarity with Singaporeans and the Tamils' commitment to national progress. An example was the editorial titled 'Everyone has a role and a responsibility.' The Q&A section of the magazine featured readers' questions, along with the editor’s responses, with a particular emphasis on inquiries related to Singapore's history. The opinion section typically analysed current affairs, while the women's section featured critical analyses of women’s health and welfare. The magazine also highlighted parliamentary debates and covered news related to literary book launch events. Details regarding the date of the magazine's closure and the reasons remain unknown.
