Seerthirutham, meaning reform, was a progressive monthly published from 1939 as an organ of the Tamils Reform Association. It was published by A C Suppiah, the president of the association, with G Sarangapani serving as the editor of the magazine.
This four-page 8” x 10.5” magazine was published from the association’s address at 20 Klang Road. The magazine was printed at The Edward Press at 192, Lavender Street, and distributed for free. Researcher Balabaskaran has noted that, according to fellow researcher Rajeshwari Ampalavanar, Seerthirutham was originally published as a weekly of the Singai Agambadiyar Magajana Sangam from 1929 to 1934, with Sarangapani as its editor. However, no copies of the weekly have been found.
Started as a monthly magazine in March 1939, Seerthirutham published editorials, articles, poems, and short stories with reformist ideas aimed at uplifting the Malaya Tamils. The first editorial, titled ‘Tamils Reform Association,’ emphasised gender equality, class equality, educational improvement, alcohol abstinence, austerity and the avoidance of irrational traditions. The reasons and the date of Seerthirutham's closure remain unknown.
