Springleaf Prata Place, established in 2003 by S V Gunalan, is known widely for its prata varieties. The restaurant was featured in the 2023 Michelin Guide and practices inclusive employment, with about 40 percent of its kitchen personnel comprising people with disabilities.
Originally named The Prata Place, the restaurant underwent a rebranding in 2014 to become Springleaf Prata Place, drawing inspiration from the nearby Springleaf Road to establish its identity. The restaurant gained recognition after participating in the Ultimate Hawker Fest charity event in 2012, where it introduced the innovative Ultimate Murtabak. Since then, Springleaf Prata Place has expanded its menu, introducing new items while maintaining its signature crispy and fluffy prata base. The restaurant has grown to include 11 additional outlets across Singapore. In 2021, as part of Resorts World Las Vegas' Famous Foods Street Eats initiative, Springleaf Prata Place was selected as one of the 16 food stalls representing Asia.
In addition to its culinary innovations, Springleaf Prata Place upholds inclusive hiring practices. Approximately 40 percent of its kitchen staff comprises individuals with disabilities, who play an integral role in producing 80percent of the restaurant's prata dough. These dedicated individuals contribute significantly, producing an impressive 290,400 prata doughs each month. In the future, the restaurant aims to achieve 100 percent dough production by individuals with disabilities. This ambitious goal underscores the management’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment while maintaining its high standards of quality and innovation. Springleaf Prata Place has earned the rare distinction of being featured in both the 2019 and 2023 Michelin Guides, a remarkable achievement for a prata chain.
