Sri Vadabathira Kaliamman Temple, situated along Serangoon Road, is over a century old. It is one of the family-managed temples in Singapore.

The temple was established around 1870 by Hindus who lived in the vicinity of the current temple location and in the Potong Pasir area. Starting as a small wooden shack, it was made into a thatched shrine by 1935. Subsequently, in the late 1930s, the administration of the temple was entrusted to B Govindasamy Chettiar. The Periyachi, Madurai Veeran, and Muneeswaran shrines were added to the expanded temple in 1943. Under the supervision of Chettiar, the temple was renovated and consecrated in 1947. After his death in 1948, the temple management was handed over to his son-in-law S L Perumal, whose financial support subsequently led to the addition of the main tower and further renovations of the temple.

The Ramar Bhajanai Madam (devotional recitation hall), which was functioning in Cross Street, was shifted to this temple in 1979. Following that move, statues of Garuda and Hanuman, closely associated with Rama, were installed at the entrance. A four-storey multi-purpose hall was constructed in 2005 in the temple to host not only religious but also social events. In 2015, renovation work was carried out at a cost of $2 million and it was consecrated once again in 2016.
