50 Records from History: Highlights from the National Archives of Singapore features a collection of short but succinct essays written by NAS archivists on selected records that commemorate major milestones in Singapore’s history. Spanning items as diverse as documentary and manuscript records, photographs, posters, maps and building plans as well as speeches, oral history interviews and audiovisual records, the 50 records in this book covers more than 170 years of Singapore’s history. Also included is a chapter on the origins of the National Archives of Singapore from the time it started as a tiny archives unit at the Raffles Museum and Library in 1938 to its present position as a widely respected archival institution.
