In this memoir, Lady Sophia Raffles traces Raffles’ career from his humble beginnings as junior clerk in the East India Company’s offices in London to his becoming Lieutenant-Governor of Java and of West Sumatra. The memoir also detailed Raffles' founding of Singapore and his laying down the regulations for its government from 1818 to 1824.
