Good nutrition is crucial to leading a healthy lifestyle. But what if one has a medical condition that makes swallowing difficult? Due to physiological changes, older adults are at risk of poor nutrition. Consuming the right food in sufficient quantities is, thus, necessary to maintain good nutritional status. Through texture-modified diets, these individuals will be able to eat safely while meeting their daily nutrient requirements. Texture, taste, and presentation are all part of the eating experience and can impact how much one eats.
This session will cover the foundational principles of healthy eating and the importance of a balanced diet. Participants will also learn to modify and/or prepare visually appealing, nourishing, and tasty texture-modified diets for an older adult or individual with swallowing difficulties.
