The Association of Mathematics Educators was formed in December 1994 as a professional association for mathematics teachers and educators in Singapore. To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we have partnered the National Library Board to organize the following public lecture by Prof Berinderjeet Kaur. This lecture is open to the general public.
Title of Public Lecture
Mathematics Education in Singapore Schools – the past, present and future
Professor Berinderjeet Kaur
National Institute of Education
Singapore students have consistently out-performed their peers internationally on mathematics assessment since 1995. This assessment is periodically carried out by TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). We are in some ways world-renowned for the teaching and learning of mathematics. This lecture will trace the trajectory of mathematics education in Singapore schools, particularly from the early 1950’s till the present. It will also share some thoughts on the future of the same.
