Archives Invites – Yung Sai Shing
A Photographic Journey with the Chinese in Early Singapore

Community histories unfold in this series that traces Singapore’s social past with help from the archives.

This visual journey begins with three old photographs: of a Chinese street opera performance; the Great World Amusement Park; and a book rental stall in the 1960s. Together, they explore the cultural experiences shared by Chinese Singaporeans in the first half of the 20th century. Yung will also discuss the performance of Chinese revues in amusement parks and pay a special tribute to the late Bai Yan.
