Singapore literary pioneer Khoo Seok Wan (1874-1941) had experienced a life of ups and downs. He was once the leader of the local Chinese business community, and yet he spent his final years in poverty and illness. These experiences had in turn influenced his literary works, imbuing them with heartfelt emotions, and hence earning him the title of “esteemed poet of the southern sojourners”.

Join librarian Jessie Yak as she traces Khoo’s life, friends and contributions, and analyses his poetry with examples drawn from the National Library’s collection.

Free Admission. This programme will be conducted in Chinese.

Ever wondered what librarians do? In this series of monthly talks, find out what makes our librarians tick as they share highlights of their work from the collections of the National Library.
