Update: Role-playing in Post-apocalyptic Worlds from 12-2pm!
We have invited our friends from the Singapore Open Gaming community to host a role-playing game session to hype you up before the talk. Drop by from 12-2pm at the Programme Zone to test your survival skills! More details on the games below!

Ever wondered what librarians do? In this series of monthly talks, find out what makes our librarians tick as they share highlights of their work.

The end of the world has fascinated humankind endlessly, far and beyond mere mortal fear. Taking their cues from ancient mythology and heavily inspired by modern day problems that plague our world, most post-apocalyptic stories speculate about the destruction of civilisation, the struggles of the survivors and the rebuilding of society after.

As we delve deep into this genre, we cannot avoid the intrigue of the Undead that has infected our minds. After Romero, Smith, Wright, and Pitt, we have an endless onslaught of TV shows, video games, and movies featuring these unsettling creatures. Where did they come from and why do people like them so much?

Join Associate Librarian Melissa Lim in a discussion about post-apocalyptic fiction that seeks to uncover the reasons behind pop culture’s obsession with the End. From bioweapons to the undead, we will be exploring what these doomsday fears ultimately reveal about our psyche.

Admission is free and registration is required.

Details for the Role-Playing Game session:
Refuge
You are survivors of the apocalypse and seek safe haven on a deserted island... or is it? The game will be conducted using Dread, an award winning role-playing game centred around a Jenga tower.

The Tower
In a near future/alternate reality Singapore, everything is networked and the Internet of Things gave rise to a machine intelligence bent on destroying every human being. Trapped in a skyscraper as fictionalised versions of yourselves, can you get to safety before you are... terminated?
The Mythos role-playing system is a rules-lite, narrative-focused and character driven RPG that uses ordinary poker cards instead of dice.
