About the Collection:

The Arts Collection in the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library (LKCRL) covers the visual, performing and literary arts from across the globe. There is a special emphasis on Singapore literary arts and the visual and performing arts of Southeast Asia and Asia in general.

The Literary Arts Collection includes collections of literature, literary history and criticism, poetry, drama and fiction including translations of works of Singapore writers especially those written in Chinese, Malay or Tamil

The Visual Arts at level 8 of LKCRL has representative publications of the arts in all regions and time periods covering the following areas: 

  • Art history & criticism
  • Architecture
  • Landscape architecture &urban planning
  • Sculpture & ceramics
  • Painting Photography
  • Graphic design & visual communications
  • Fashion & textile design
  • Interior design & decoration
  • Product & industrial design

The Performing Arts collection which complements the library@esplanade’s collection includes publications on the performing arts history of Singapore and Southeast Asia with the following areas of focus:

  • Music including vocal music
  • Plays and public performances
  • Stage performances

In addition to the published and more contemporary materials on level 8, other formats such as manuscripts, typescripts, photographs, music scores and ephemera (eg. programme booklets and brochures) are in the closed access (RCLOS) section of LKCRL and can be consulted upon application at Level 11.
