The General Reference Collection at the National Library provides the largest public collection of reference materials and services for the general public including authoritative information sources for research, education and decision-making.
The General Reference Collection broadly covers the various fields under the Arts (from literary, visual to performing arts), Business, Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities and Language (Chinese, Malay and Tamil).
Accessing the General Reference Collection
The collection is distributed across Level 7 to 9 of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library.
The public can approach the Level 11 counter to retrieve closed access (RCLOS) materials.

Visual Arts Collection
With over 50,000 items, the collection of general arts materials at Level 8 of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library, covers global perspectives and exchanges in art traditions and critical text on the production of art in areas such as architecture, art history, sculpture, graphic arts, design and photography. The collection aims to support the appreciation, education and research into the development and history of the visual arts.
The Business Collection features a wide variety of print and online data and information including industry & market reports, analysis & research insights, statistics & financial profiles as well as business journals and trade directories.

Science & Technology Collection
The Science & Technology Collection covers print and online databases focusing on engineering, computer science, information technology, manufacturing, healthcare, building construction and renovation.

The Language Collection is targeted at Singaporeans and researchers who are seeking reference materials in their mother tongue.

The Malay Collection has a special focus on language and literature while the Tamil Collection contains materials on Indian culture and customs, literature and the arts.
