The National Library Board of Singapore oversees the following types of libraries:

Opening Hours

Reference, Regional and Community Libraries:
Mon - Sun : 10.00am - 9.00pm
Closed at 5.00pm on eves of Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.
Closed on Public Holidays
  Community Children's Libraries:
Mon - Fri : 4.00pm - 9.00pm
Sat & Sun : 1.00pm - 6.00pm
Closed on Public Holidays and eves of New Year, Chinese New Year & Christmas.
Open on eves of Hari Raya Puasa and Deepavali
* All shopping mall libraries open at 11.00am

Reference Library

Lee Kong Chian Reference Library, named after Dr Lee Kong Chian, in honour of the Lee Foundation's S$60 million donation, aims to be the premier resource for works on or about Singapore and the region for local and overseas researchers and academics. The Lee Kong Chian Reference Library occupies 7 storeys (Levels 7-13) at the National Library Board Building with a floor area of 60,000 square metres.

Regional Libraries

The regional library has an extensive collection as it is targeted not only at the people living in that particular township, but also at those who have more specialised information needs. Such a library offers a wider range of reference materials (in both print and non-print formats), in addition to the general collection.

Community Libraries

A community library services the people living in that particular township. It caters to the information needs of the community and has a balance of both fiction and non-fiction materials, both in print and non-print format.

Community Children's Libraries

Community Children's Libraries (CCLs) are located in the void decks of HDB (Housing & Development Board) estates, and are targeted at children aged 10 and under. CCLs offer books in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil in addition to multimedia terminals to make learning fun.
