A Librarian's World
Thinker, Trainer: Confessions of a Digital Librarian

Ever wondered what librarians do? In this series of monthly talks, find out what makes our librarians tick as they share highlights of their work from the collections of the National Library.

“On the Internet, every day is April Fools' Day”in recent months, there has been much buzz about “fake news” and “alternate truths” all around the world. Fake news can have real consequences, such as causing unnecessary alarm and panic.

Join Damien Wang as he shares his experiences, joys and challenges of being a Digital Engagement Librarian in an increasingly VUCA* world. One key responsibility of the National Library’s new Education and Outreach team is to foster greater awareness, understanding and adoption of information literacy skills to enable Singaporeans to be more discerning of fake news and hoaxes, without being didactic.

* volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous

Admission is free and registration is required.

About the Speaker
Together with his colleagues, Damien has applied his expertise in digital resources to content creation and promotion; customising training workshops for teachers, students and working adults; as well as organising nationwide campaigns and competitions.
