Down the Catwalk of Singapore’s Fashion History with the National Library’s Legal Deposit Collection
Ever wondered what librarians do? In this series of monthly talks, find out what makes our librarians tick as they share highlights of their work from the collections of the National Library.

Join Associate Librarian Zoe Yeo as she uncovers Singapore’s fashion history as seen through early books, magazines and souvenir publications from the National Library’s Legal Deposit collection, such as Fashion, Her World, Fashion Parade for Men, Costumes of Malaya and the Woman's Beauty Club: Hair Fashion And Beauty Culture Edition.

These publications capture social changes in Singapore, from the rise and decline of dress-making, to the fashion trends featured in the magazines of yesteryear and the evolution of various traditional ethnic costumes. Learn more about our home-grown designers and their contributions to the local fashion industry.

Don’t miss this opportunity to view the colourful array of historical research materials on Singapore’s fashion history. You are welcome to dress up in your traditional costume or vintage clothing and share your favourite style with us!
