OOOM is Singapore’s first social open mike. Initially an acronym for "Originals Only Open Mike," OOOM now stands simply for Peace and welcomes performances of not just original songs, but also of covers and even poetry. It is a platform for celebrating creativity, enjoying the arts, and encouraging community bonding and peacebuilding through the universal language of music. OOOM will commemorate special days like the United Nations “International Day Of Families,” and celebrate the good work of organisations in the social and humanitarian space. Anyone can sing and recite poetry at OOOM. Performance slots are open for registration at the venue half an hour before the open mike.
Pre-registration can be done via email (email@example.com). OOOM will regularly invite Featured Artistes to perform a short set to inspire budding singer-songwriters and performers. More details about OOOM can be found at www.ooom.sg
FEATURED ARTISTE: SHIMONA
Singer-songwriter Shimona burst back onto the Singapore music scene in 2010 with a simple, heart-wrenching style of music after a 6-year overseas stint. A vocalist first, a multi-instrumentalist second, she won TV Works’ Singapore-wide singing contest, The Big Break, in 2001, which led to her pursuing music professionally. In 2004, Shimona pursued her studies in Thailand where she continued to refine her talent in music with a minor in music (Classical Voice & Piano). Upon returning to Singapore in 2010, Shimona produced her own independent EP, “Christmas Lights”. In 2011, Shimona took part in the Overtime Acoustic Challenge and won the title of 1st runner up in Singapore, as well as 2nd runner up in the Singapore-Malaysia Grand Finals held in KL. She also placed as 1st runner up in 987fm’s Singer-Songwriter competition, The Next Big Thing, after which her songs “Just Not That Into You” and “Now and Then”, recorded by Don Richmond, received radio airplay. Currently, Shimona performs live on a regular basis, and is involved as a specialized vocal instructor at United World College and LaSalle College of the Arts. Her debut full-length album, Simply Shimona, was launched in February 2012.
