ROOTS: A visual arts exhibition on cultural heritage
Set against multicultural Singapore, this discursive exhibition aims to engage the youth community in Singapore to reflect on the relevance of cultural heritage in relation to their sense of rootedness to their homeland. Expect intriguing themes concerning the gradual loss of one’s own traditions and muted stories of a buried history, and threats from the disarming face of urban development to be explored and unveiled by Dr. Kay Kok Chung Oi, Justin Lee, Gerson Gilrandy, Kai Chong and Fendy Ibrahim, ROOTS collective of collaborating local artists who are setting out to return heritage its voice. This exhibition, conceptualized and organized by Lorong 7 Productions of LASALLE College of the Arts’ Arts Management Programme, was launched at Old School on 2nd March and will be making its way across selected Public Libraries to showcase the rising concerns over the painful erosion of cultural heritage, a jarring result of any fledging nation's rapid progression into the league of the First World.
