i am number fourI am Number Four
Author: Pittacus Lore
Call No.: Y LOR

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live alongside aliens that look exactly like you? I Am Number Four, is the first book of a series, Lorien Legacies. I Am Number Four tells the story of how the nine aliens left of a race, called the Gardes, try to survive after escaping their planet, Lorien, which was being attacked by another evil alien race, the Mogadorians. The Gardes aren’t your ordinary alien creatures. They look just like humans but they are in control of unique superpowers also known as legacies. They are numbered one to nine and are protected by the Loric Charm, which means they can only be killed in order. One by one they are being tracked down and killed mercilessly by the Mogadorians. The first three are dead and only six remain.

The story spans over six books with the seventh and final book being released this year. This creates ample time to see the characters and the plot develop slowly which I find is great. In I Am Number Four, you are introduced to one of the main and one of the most memorable characters, Four, who is called John Smith on Earth. He is fourth in line of the Gardes and is the one currently being haunted by the Mogadorians in the book, meaning that he is in grave danger. Throughout the book, he forms meaningful relationships with people who would risk their lives to help him fight the Mogadorians. Four also goes through very hard situations throughout the book which reveals his true character.

Personally, I enjoyed reading this book very much. It has a very unique storyline with plot twists you would never expect. The book is so action-packed that it will leave you wanting more after every sentence and will leave you at the edge of your seat. If you are into hybrid science fiction fantasy elements e.g. superpowers then I’m positive this book is for you.
