discoveReads is a reading blog by National Library Board (NLB) that allows children and teens to discover new, interesting books without the hassle of registering for accounts. The site is updated monthly with new book recommendations, articles written by the librarians, events and quizzes. Besides reading resources for children and teens, there are also resources for parents and teachers to foster the love of reading at home and in school.
THE DISCOVEREADS TEAM
― Sue Townsend, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 ¾.
Hello friends, my name is Meryl, the resident goofball writer here at discoveReads. I enjoy a variety of books, from Pinkalicious to The Little Prince. And when I’m not reading, I play Overwatch and binge-watch Studio Ghibli films.
– Pablo Neruda, poet.
Hi there. I’m Aida, your friendly discoveReads writer. I enjoy stories that make me laugh, cry, and feel for the characters, as well as non-fiction books on baking, art, and trivia. When I’m not reading, I ride rollercoasters and paint (not at the same time). See you around!
“Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of both influencing injury, and remedying it.”
– J.K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Hi! I’m Carmen, one of the writers for discoveReads. I love books that feature animals in some way, with some of my favourites being the Animorphs series and Willard Price’s Adventure series. When I’m not being a librarian and I enjoy making DIY crafts and watching the latest kdramas.
― Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass.
Hello! I’m Cheryl, one of the discoveReads minions that keeps the site running and updated! It goes without saying that I love reading. To be more specific, I love reading cliché Young Adult novels. If I’m not reading, you can probably find me hunched over my Nintendo 3DS playing Pokemon.
― Stephen King
Hi there! My name is Olive and I’m one of the writers for discoveReads. I love reading picture books and dystopian novels. When I’m not reading, you can find me doodling or nibbling on snacks!
Read@School is an initiative by the National Library Board (NLB) to promote reading among students in schools. Students can enjoy a variety of exciting reading programmes that cater to their reading abilities and interests. This includes participation in storytelling, thematic booktalks, genre workshops, online reading portal and many more! Hands-on activities and games are also incorporated in the reading programmes to pique their curiosity in books.
In addition, there are programmes designed for teachers and parents to help them in their roles as reading role models, to promote a lively and enjoyable reading culture among children and teens.
