Chinese puppetry is a tradition that is slowly losing ground in Singapore. Caroline Chia tells us why this art form should be preserved.
Caroline Chia researches on the theatrical forms of the Chinese diaspora in Singapore, China, Taiwan and Australia. She is the author of Development of Cantonese Opera in Singapore (2013) and co-author of "Potehi: Glove Puppet Theatre in Southeast Asia and Taiwan" (2015). She has worked with the National Heritage Board to document puppetry art forms in Singapore, and organised the first traditional glove puppetry workshop in November 2016.
